ok, im just learin the piano by myself, i play the flute so i can sight-read nd play with both handz…
just wonderin when is a good time to go nd hv lessonz??
i mean i dont want to go to a lesson if i can do it in my house…nd which scalez should i learn now??
ps. any flute playerz here whom i can be friendz with??
I have nothing against learning piano by yourself but, as soon as you can afford to have lessons go right ahead! It’s always best if you have someone to teach you and watch for mistakes. A good teacher should be able to show you proper form and technique and give you learning materials suited to your level. It most definitely is not cheating!
can someone teach me beginner piano songs I cant read sheet music I think i can play by numbers?

mary had a little lamb silent night please teach me easy beginner songs
cords not sheet music
Get some instruction from a live person paid or free, but where they can see and hear your progress. That is the only way that mistakes are going to be caught early before they become serious or discouraging problems. The use of web sites is a bonus, but not the way improve your skills and definitely not the way to begin..
Remember that you might be able to teach yourself how to fly an airplane, but if you make mistakes it could kill you and others. You might be able to teach yourself piano, but if you make mistakes, you may turn into a lousy piano player.
To learn some things you need a teacher.

For a piano beginner,which is the better option between YamahaP-70 & NP-30?

I'm going to start piano classes soon and I'd like to purchase a digital piano so that I can practice at home. Also I'll continue on acoustis in future so which Yamaha will suit me better?
Please help me out,cheers.
Hi,
Since you plan to be playing on an acoustic piano in the future, I warn that you NOT get a non-weighted 76-key keyboard as a starter piano.
It's with experience that I recommend getting yourself a piano that at least includes the "graded hammer action." With training on a non-weighted keyboard, the transition to a real piano will be very awkward and unfamiliar, and you'll end up with the need to relearn key touch, which will be a slow and painful process.
Here is a review I wrote on a digital piano at Epinions explaining my experience adjusting to a real piano from a soft touch digital.

It's also important to be sure the piano includes adequate pedal features. The pedals themselves should feel authentic. Pedals are of course accessories and can be replaced at any time. But on the digital piano itself, there should be at least two pedal ports, one for the sustain (right) pedal and one for the una corda (left) pedal. The sostenuto (middle) pedal is optional because, in my opinion, the effects can be achieved with agile fingerwork.

Half-pedaling is an important feature that produces a slightly lessened effect of the sustain pedal, which is done by pressing the pedal down partially. It looks like the P70 supports this.

The una corda pedal weakens the sound and dulls the tone of the music by eliminating a few "strings." It is also a direction of play found in some compositions, and you will NOT be able to produce the effect with any amount of fingerwork; it is only achievable through the pedal mechanism. I do strongly recommend getting a digital piano that supports this feature, but it can tolerable doing without it if your budget is limiting.
Please also carefully study the customer reviews and be sure their comments are in line with your goals for the piano. I've read a little about the P-70 and for the most part, people seem to be pleased with its authenticity.
Here's one page of customer reviews I found. Try to find some more.

Hope that helps, and good luck.
Interesting resource for pianists.

any tips whatsoever for an absolute piano beginner?

really want to learn to play a few peices, namely mozarts moonlight sonata and Andante Grazioso.
how long would it take a complete newcomer to at least pick up basic things?, obviously practice makes perfect.
also if you are a decent player or a beginner what helps/helped you, anything is appreciated.
…bearing in mind i cant read music
Honestly I would recommend finding a teacher, self-teaching really can't compare. However, if not, at least buy a book for beginners just to help with technique and reading the music. Sadly most beginner piano books are for young children, so I would recommend Bastien's Piano for Adults.
Holding the hand correctly is another thing which you should be aware of. At higher levels the shape of the hand changes depending on the composer and style and to create different tones but far too often I see beginners trying to play with completely flat fingers and a wrist which is far too low. I was brought up with the image that you have a hamster underneath your palm. You don't want to crush it (so keep your hand rounded) but you don't want to let it escape (so don't hold your wrist too high). Your hand and wrist should feel comfortable when you play.
Thirdly, don't underestimate the power of scales! They are the building blocks for a vast number of pieces and so if you practise them early then it will make playing in the future a whole lot easier too. Arpeggios are useful too and would probably help with the Moonlight Sonata (both the first and third movement when you come to it!)
But it all boils down to practise. Perhaps along with a book to help you play, you could buy a book to practise sight-reading. I would suggest Improve Your Sight-reading grade 1 by Paul Harris. This includes lots of practise tests and methods to help you.
When practicing, make sure that you learn the notes hands separately, slowly and push the keys down very hard. This helps to provide a 'scaffold' for when you put it hands together, faster and with emotion. But try to resist moving onwards with the piece before you're entirely happy with each hand separately and slowly.
Ok, good luck with learning!!
(Oh and… Beethoven wrote the 'Moonlight' Sonata)
If I have never taught piano before, can you recommend a piano method course for a beginner piano student?

I have played piano for 30 years, but I have never given lessons. Someone wants me to start lessons with their son. What piano method would you recommend for both a beginning teacher and student? He is in junior high.
There is a series of books called "Music for Young Children" which gets progressivley harder. My teacher used these books when she taught me, they're very straight forward, i found them great. Don't worry about the title having the words "young children" in it, even though he is in junior high, it's a great series for beginners. good luck
