Can anyone suggest a keyboard piano for a beginner?

Posted by admin

I'm willing to pay about a little over $200 for the keyboard and books or cd's to help me learn. If you can't find one that would be good for a beginner can you at least give me some specs to look for. Also, is it that important to have weighted keys?
Are the casios reasonably priced?

While casios aren't the best keyboards in the world they are okay and cost less than the other quality brands. You want to get as many keys as you can for piano playing (a piano is 88). Many keyboards are 61 keys (that really is to short). There are also 76 key keyboards and those will have an adequate amount of keys. Anything with 88 keys is likely to cost over $400.

You are not likely to find a weighted keyboard for $200. Touch Sensativity (meaning it's louder if you strike the key harder) is more important. The touch of keyboard is different from a piano and weighted keys is a way to make the touch more like a piano. Hammer action keys are the most like a piano (but also cost a lot!). You will be able to get started okay without weighted keys but may want to consider getting one with weighted or even hammer action in the future.

Beginner Piano – Vivaldi/Scivales – Largo (mv 2) of L’Inverno

Posted by admin

I am starting to learn to play piano and I recorded myself playing Riccardo Scivales’s arrangement of the Largo movement from L’Inverno of Vivaldi’s The Seasons. This video is an apology to my piano teachers and a demo for family who live too far away.

What is the best piano for beginner?

Posted by admin

What is the best piano for beginner ? I am planning to learn piano on my own by
reading and watching dvd, is it a good idea to start with a digital keyboard piano.
my buget is around 300-500. i saw one seems pretty good . 88 keys. Any good suggest ?

I have given this answer a LOT this summer. We own a Steinway grand – and five electronic pianos/synths. Last purchase for gigs is a M-Audio 88sx. Less than $400, & decent sounds. Weighs 17 pounds (which is why we bought it – our big old Roland that does everything except wash dishes weighs 26 pounds. Those nine pounds make a difference when you are moving things 4 times a day (out of house, into gig, out of gig, back in house). 88 keys – semi-weighted, adjustable action (velocity curve).

BEST ADVICE?? Get a teacher. Reading and watching DVDs is NOT going to work. Seriously – what you spend in junk and TIME, you could spend on lessons.

He’s really cool for sharing his videos. I’m going to start posting my “piano progress” too, starting with this recent one:

JERICHO
From Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course: Lesson Book 1

I’ve been improvising by ear for years, I’ve got horrible habits, and I can’t read notes well. I’m currently taking piano lesson from my awesome piano teacher and she’s teaching me some really cool things. I can’t wait to get done with this book. =)

PS.
My piano is out of tune.I need to get tuned soon. =(

What is a good electronic piano for a beginner?

Posted by admin

I'm interested in buying a fully weighted electronic piano. I'm just starting out and am interested in doing contemporary piano pieces as well as the option to hook up to an apple computer to work with certain music applications. A lot of people recommend yamaha pianos, though I'm not sure what to look for. I'm looking for a full range of price points from "starter" pianos as well as ones that would last me longer.

Yamaha is a good one to start with. About 5 years ago, they came out with the DGX line of pianos. The 88 key version of it (DGX-500) is lightly weighted. It's a first generation model. They've since come out with the 505 and 510 models. Each of these sound exactly identical to the original, but with a few more bell and whistles that you probably don't need. You can find the original model on ebay for about $350 which is very reasonable, and it sounds amazing for the price. I've been playing and composing for 12 years, and I've been using this model since it came out, and still love it. It's great for beginners as well as seasoned veterans without a bunch of extra cash. And no, I don't work for Yamaha. This is my own experience.

How many hours do you think it takes a total beginner at piano to learn Fur Elise?

Posted by admin

I have put in hours!! I still can’t learn it. Its so hard using both hands. Also, anyone have any tips on getting better using both hands?

practice scales and arpeggios will help you to play with both hands.
About the piece, it’s really hard to say how many hours you need to put in, it depends on your talent, the quality of your practicing, if you have a teacher, he/she should be able to help you more, but it is rather hard for a total beginner to play this piece, especially the chromatic scale part. I can only suggest you to start very slow, and break the whole piece to few parts for practicing. Do it seperately, one hand first, then the other one, at the end why you are fluent with both hands, then join them together. Don’t try to do it all right from the begining, you will only get yourself very frastrated and full of mistakes.

I dont know what type of bood to get…..can you please give me suggestions.

Have a look at DUVAL 23 Keys. They have a step-by-step piano manual that really teaches beginners how to read music properly. There are lots of exercises plus theory & ear training and it comes with full-length audio that makes practicing an absolute pleasure.
