Honestly, I highly suggest http://www.zebrakeys.com They have all the free resources you will need as a beginner piano player. Plus, they have awesome flash animated examples and a virtual piano keyboard! =) Good luck!

I teach piano lessons to children and use the Alfred books. Alfred does have an adult series.

Tell him to get a real piano teacher with experience and/or a degree or two! They know the latest and best books to use. You would not want someone with just a first aid certificate to operate on you would you
